Can anyone recommend a good oversized sleeping bag, mostly used in warmer western state summer weather that is light and compact enough to strap down outside of a pack, or won't take too much room inside a pack (NOT MUMMY style)? I'm a big guy....6'2, 325 pds.

Thanks,
Mark

Nemo Spoon Style bags. Ranges from 0 degree to 30. I have the Nocturne and love it. Plenty of room and very warm.

I'm a big guy too. I have a Big Agnes down one that I use in cooler fall trips. They have some that are NOT mummy style. They dont have insulation in the bottom, instead a pocket for your pad. So they kinda perform like a quilt.

Another option is just use a cheap 40F bag, unzip and use like a quilt. This is what I do, as a lot of summer trips it's well above freezing.

But like others have said, a true quilt is the bomb... from what I hear. Enlightened Equipment seems highly recommended.

A huge, heavy ... yet cheap option, is the Coleman Big Basin big & tall 0-20F. Normally I wouldn't mention such a big & heavy bag but for us big guys any suggestion is valuable info. I use this bag with a BA Q-Core pad .... but the mules pack it. Quite a comfy bag.

Big Agnes park series is a good choice for us Plus sized guys. I'm 6' 5" & 280# I have the Whisky Park and love it
it is big & heavy but I roll it log style & lash it to the outside of the pack. For California mild weather the
Buffalo Park 40 degree bag with a good pad should be fine. Use something like Kifaru's 5 string stuff sack
to hang your bag outside your pack & not lose any space.

Take a look at the Big Agnes Lost Ranger. I'm a big guy and it is a great bag. It packs up very good in my pack.
