Anyone have one? Or has anyone used just the weight adapter on another pack?

Seems like a good idea to use it instead of beating up your hunting pack.

A few threads on this, here’s one:

Interesting idea.

Years ago I played with backpack weight while training for some army stuff. After trying a few different few different angles - plates, dumbbells, lead, tools, sand, etc - I found the best for me was to make sand bags from play sand, gallon zip locks, contractor bags and duct tape. I make them in 10 & 20# doses and load up as needed. I wrap them in towels or furniture blankets and put them in my pack. They don’t shift around or burn through the nylon like hard weights. Also, if I ever needed to dump weight they are cheap and more or less disposable.

I have one and have used it this year only. It’s a great setup, only thing is the weight closest to the frame tends to rock left to right while hiking rough terrain and makes an annoying metal hitting plastic sound. Easy remedy is wrap a small piece of cloth on each side of the frame where the weight hits. Other than that no complaints and a very easy way to get a good work out. I carry a 10 lb weight in each hand to mimic a rifle or bow and you can slap them on the stud real quick if needed.

I would want to be training with the same pack that I was intending to use while backpacking/hunting. That way, I'm familiar with the pack, how it fits me when loaded, what to adjust to make it comfortable, etc.

There are plenty of options for adding weight to the pack you hike/hunt with, some of which have already been mentioned. Sand is cheap. Wrap up a 50# bag of sand in a garbage bag and then duct tape the shit out of it, it'll last you for years.

I'm already comfortable with my hunting pack and have loaded it with all kinds of different things testing it. Had a 40 pack of bottled water in there a couple time.

For me the convenience of after work hikes at local trails is nice and not toting around my exo 3500 loaded with sand bags in my pickup. Just a couple dumbbells and the atlas pack make it simple. Also just to be able to graduate to more weight very easily.
