Going on my first ever elk hunt for Colorado 3rd rifle this year. I have miendl 400 g boots that work best with otc socks. Crew socks tend to get sucked into the boots.
What are some good otc sock options? I mostly see the thin smart wool skiing socks. Are they my best option?

I thought you meant “over the counter” at first. Thought “dang buying socks is different than when I bought my last pair 5 yrs ago”

Kennetrek Alaska socks are my favorite over the calf for cold weather. First lite is my preference for warmer weather.

My polypropylene liner socks are over the calf, and my shorter Smartwool Classic merino socks stay up over those very well. I put the liner socks on, then pull my base bottoms down over those, then my merino socks over those........and they stay up all day.

Lifetime warranty, 37.5 tech, Colorado company, made in the USA, sustainable processes; a lot of good stuff going on.

Pick whichever weight suits you best. I just sent them back 5 pairs of socks that had holes in them because I like to wear them as slippers outside. No questions asked they sent me a voucher for enough money to cover 5 new pairs of socks of my choosing.

Man I wish they still made , I think they were called , gore . Those things were the greatest socks I’ve worn, and I’ve tried a ton of different socks.

As far as over the calf , I have a few pairs of mountain standard, that I like but I don’t know if they still make the ones I have anymore.
i tried several of the point6 socks, sndmn11 mentioned, and really like em.

I don’t have a ton of experience with different brands of socks as I am the type of person that sticks with something that works once i find it. Fortunately my first dedicated hunting socks were darn tough and they were fantastic so I just stuck with them.
