Hi everyone, this fall I’m looking to start hunting other states. This will be the first time I’m applying to any state other than my home state (Texas) so I know getting drawn will be pretty difficult. I’m also looking into doing an OTC hunt if I’m not selected. I’m wondering if anyone knows of some easier draw hunts that I’d have a decent chance at getting with no points or of any good OTC hunts. I prefer rifle hunting but if options are really limited I could do bow. I’m mostly interested in mule deer, whitetail, blacktail or antelope but would be down to go after other game if anyone knows of a good OTC or draw rifle hunt.

Everyone and their mother would like to find a low/no point unit that’s consistently awesome… they don’t exist. What does exist is opportunity hunts, if you can figure out an area you can make even the most marginal units pretty okay. This won’t make the bulls or bucks in the area any older or bigger but success can be found anywhere. And honestly if you don’t like an area don’t go back, find a spot that you like and figure it out, that is like 90% of the fun of hunting, other 10% of the fun is shooting, after that the fun is over and then it’s just work. Rewarding work but work none the less

Check out this calendar and get acquainted with each states deadlines and fees (up front vs post draw) this will help clarify things at least by deadline. Example, if you are thinking Wyoming and Arizona, those fees are due by next week. Don't rush into anything so maybe those states are a plan for another year. Start closer to home, TN and NM maybe https://www.huntinfool.com/resources/draw-deadlines
