Oregon native here. Deer herds are on steady decline, elk is okay but not great. Only perk is hunting Rosie’s…if you like the jungle.

Ask away. Not a recurve guy, but familiar with much of the state for hunting. Some great hunting here, especially for bow hunters, if you are flexible in your quarry.

2.5% quota once you take the outfitter allocation out.

That being said they kill a lot of elk in Oregon. From a low point standpoint, I’d hunt Oregon over Utah general or Colorado general.

We have some good elk hunting in Oregon but trophy hunting is pretty limited. Any decent tag requires drawing a controlled hunt. There are a few general tags but the ones available are very low success percentages . Most of eastern Oregon has Spike only tags as their general tags. There are still a lot Roosevelt general season tags if you are after a rosie. Roosevelt hunting can be pretty challenging if you haven't hunted western Oregon terrain

As a nr unless you’re coming from Cali or Washington you are driving past better options in my opinion. Feel free to pm for what little I have to offer though.

I appreciate all the feedback back fellas. I’ve been able to PM a few of ya and get some answers without having the thread locked for specific questions. I just enjoy those Rocky Mountains and like most old timers. Can’t hardly seem to draw a tag anymore. Just trying to find myself a few more options before I’m done.

If you are a recurve man, we also have some traditional archery tags that you can look into and see if you have better drawing odds.

The 5% cap in Oregon for NR's is tough. Then take about 1/3 of those 5% out of the pool for the guide welfare tags. Most decent hunts in OR take a few points anymore. The trophy units in OR are literally unreachable for any NR starting out.

Used to be an OR resident. The odds and % allocation are pretty poor, but I keep buying points on the off chance of becoming a resident again lol. I always hoped of drawing an antelope tag growing up. Those dreams faded when I moved away in my 20s. 3% of tags to NR for antelope and 5% for deer and elk hurts. Apparently those % also include outfitter tags making it worse. You can always get a western Oregon tag over the counter, but that has its own challenges, too. So yeah, lots better options elsewhere if you can manage it
