If I see one mature 4pt on public land during a 7 day hunt in Eastern Oregon I consider myself lucky. I take hunting very seriously and hunt hard. I’ve also had the privilege to hunt private property a few times in Oregon and could see a dozen or more mature bucks in a day.
I wish I could say Ive never done that but I have. I hunted a solid week in a new unit and only saw spikes and forkhorns. Let greed get the best of me and shot the first 4pt I saw. Definitely was a young deer, given a couple years he would have been a great deer.The problem is that people kill every 4 point when it’s 2.5 so the genetics can be tough.
We’ve killed a pile of 4-9 year old 2 and 3 points.
