This is my first year hunting in Oregon and hunting Elk in general. Anybody ever hunt the Sumpter Unit? Not looking for any secret spots just some advise and a place to start.

There is zero secret spots in sumpter. Not a lot of public land, a lot of tags.
West side of unit is most your public forest lands. Go in with aspirations of going elk hunting.
Enjoy the whole experience. Put some time on your boots.
Not a super productive elk unit, 15% of folks find one to tip over.
Might just be your year.

Just bought pts this year on everything...OTC elk with the bow...blacktail with the gun...I'll now have 15pts for elk!, just gotta decide what to do with them!!
