I dont know what your trying to accomplish but the opposite side of the spectrum from the Sitka vest might be the Orang a glow vests. Super light weight basic vest.

Just picked up a carhatt Gilliam. I dig it. Took a north face thermoball on my Colorado hunt this year. Super light, but didnt add much warmth.

I like for my orange layer to actually serve a purpose and add insulation and have usable pockets.

I actually prefer my orange vest to serve no purpose -- outside of visibility -- so I can wear whatever I'd be wearing anyway and just throw a super-light vest over the top without changing anything.

I carry that one too. Orange aglow. For when I have just a baselayer top on and don't need insulation. But if I'm going insulation, I want a good orange vest that way I don't have the mesh vest blocking pockets that usually hold gloves, beanies and crap like that.

I'm probably in the minority, but I really love the functional orange vest

Been wearing the same old vest for ages. Ex FIL grabbed it outta the Forest Service trash. I've sewn, re sewn, buttoned, snapped and modified the thing 6 ways to Sunday. That thing has some miles and blood on it for sure.

Could never bring myself to buy the Sitka vest for $100 but a few months ago TRCP was running a promo that gave you the Sitka vest for $60 with their logo stitched in. I don't know how much they saw of that $60 but I bought one.

Keep a blaze orange bandana on your pack. Comes in handy and can be attached to your pack in pinch.
