Orange hooded softshell jacket?

I'm hoping to be hunting Colorado this year for muleys. I'm looking at options for an orange vest that is a useful layer instead of just something to meet the orange requirement. I'm thinking of buying a hooded softshell jacket and cutting the sleeves off to make a vest. That way I can have a layer with a hood I can pull up when I stop that still meets the orange requirement. In the past in Wyoming and Kansas I've used an orange ear band over all my hoods to keep some orange showing. It works but is inconvenient for shorter glassing stops when I still need to cut the wind on my ears. I have a decent orange camo vest I've used but nothing that's just orange that isn't cheap and loud.

Anyone else tried this? Anyone know of an orange softshell jacket that has a decent hood? Thanks for any help you can give.

I have an orange fleece jacket that is great, no hood tho. Also wear a reversible fleece beanie - orange or tan camo. Would rather have a couple of those ear bands.

Use orange mesh vests t0 comply with game laws. It weighs next to nothing and can be hung on your pack or over any kind of clothes you have on. They are silent - none of that noisy nylon stuff. Cheap too.

Walmart.com may have some orange sweatshirt jackets - I've seen both orange and high viz yellow down here in the stores. Be cheap enough to buy and take the arms off...

Hope this helps.

Better keep that hood up all the time, not just when you stop. Never know when a GW is watching.
The orange ear bands work well for me just for the reason stated, the orange is always visible.

Might also look for a windbreaker type. I had one that worked well for Colorado rifle. It was weather resistant enough to not need a true hardshell, lighter than a soft shell.

I run an orange cap for when the hood isn't being used. I have the ear band if it's cold enough to need it. Usually I don't need anything over my ears until I stop moving for a bit.
