Options for best 1x muzzy scope?

Looks like my muzzleloader will be finding its way to Utah this year and I'm liking the idea of a 1x scope instead of factory sights. Any suggestions? I'm willing to spend a few hundred bucks, but won't drop the $1200 for the nightforce.

Non-magnifying (1x) red dots are legal in Utah. I have used a red dot on a muzzleloader for 10+ years and prefer it over a regular 1x scope. Get the smallest MOA dot and largest objective you can find.

I use a sightron SI 1x scope, it's not bad, but it's not really all that great either. It does hold its zero though. I paid about $120 for it. I think they discontinued the model. I think Nikon and maybe a few others make a regular 1x scope.

I know there are some guys around here that ordered Leupold VX-2 1-4x20mm scopes and had Leupold "lock" them at 1x somehow. I think they also had turrets installed so they could dial for elevation correction.

My knock against regular cross hair 1x scopes is on deer much over 150 yards, the cross hairs pretty much cover up the deer.

Good luck in your search. What tag did you draw?

This is the same reason I prefer a small MOA red dot over a 1x scope. If you know the size of red dot you can also do some rudimentary range finding through the scope. This is especially helpful if you don't have time to do true range finding on quick shot opportunities.

If you go red dot practice shooting both eyes open.

Thank for the feed back guys! I do have an EO Tech sitting in my safe as well as a vortex razor red dot (3moa). I think they are options worth looking at for sure. My concern is the lack of sub tensions, turrets, or anything for a reference on those extended shots. I did look at a 1x4 vortex pst with an interesting reticle (don't remember what it was called) and was illuminated (bonus but not a game changer). Does anyone know if they/I could have it permanently fixed on 1x and be ok with Utah gameys?

Drhorse. I have been using a eotech on my MZ for the last 7 years with great success no issues as of yet.

Red dots are great but my brother just picked up a new Vortex 1x scope and I like it quite a bit more than my Nikon. Its very clear and bright. Might look into one if your still looking.

Triple - I had a UT muzzy tag a few years ago and looked into 1x scopes quite a bit and ended up with a TC Hunter Hawkin mainly because it had the finest crosshairs I found and had a wider field of view than others. (Vortex did not have one when I was looking.) I was able to shoot comfortably at 200 yds. The main thing I didn't like about the 1x scopes was that the target looks much smaller than with the naked eye. Apparently the eye is about 1.5x which somewhat surprised me. At any rate, I liked the crosshairs relative to shooting longer distances. I hadn't used a peep sight which is an option that some prefer over the 1x scopes. I plan to sell my scope but just haven't gotten around to posting it anywhere so if you're interested, let me know.

I looked through Sabotloaders peep system this last weekend and it "acts" as a 1x scope. Pretty impressive. I don't have my notes on the exact system but he'll post up I'm sure. Looks like I'll be ordering it for my gun this year.

I've been on the horn with sabotloader many times in the last year picking his brain (I'll bet I've asked that poor man more questions than I've asked all other roksliders combined). He is a wealth of knowledge and a very important contributor to this forum IMO. He's agreed to let me do some shooting with him this summer and I hope to get an opportunity to see/handle what works for him.

Hi Cody,
don't miss the chance if you get to shoot with him. You'll learn a bunch.

I went with the $50 1x Traditions when I moved to Utah. I figured it was a good way to see how I would like the 1x scope. I actually really like it and got my wife one too.

i have the nikon 1x and i will say i havent had a chance to shoot it alot and compare to open sights but I did kill a couple deer with it a little over 100 yards. Crosshairs are fairly fine but at 1x it almot seems to shrink the deer and the paralax on that model is horrendous. I am contemplating going back to iron sights or a eotec type sight.
