Hi there

Fairly new to the site, so much information!!

I have a question about the option sights. I know there have been talks about them on here previously so sorry if this question has been asked and answered already. I shoot a fairly heavy arrow, right around 515g and shooting it around 270ish fps. Does anyone have experience shooting a heavy setup with the Option sight, and how far are you able to shoot at. Any information on the 4/6s and the 8s would be super helpful.

I like to practice out to further distances and don't want to invest the big bucks on something that is going to limit me.

Thanks for the help guys and gals.

There are probably to many variables to give an accurate estimation. Draw length, poundage and peep height will make the biggest differences.

I hear your pain on this one! I have an HHA single pin slider that I really wish I hadn't invested in. I shoot a 505 grain arrow at around 295 FPS and even with that speed my yardage range on the tape is from 26 yards to 88 yards. Now, around 90 yards is the max distance that I can get a decent group out of at this time, but I'm getting better every year so the idea that my sight is limiting me to practice under 90 yards really bugs me.

I'm upgrading to a Spott Hogg next year as it seems like their slider system has WAY more range. Haven't looked at options to be honest.

I am between the option sight and a slider option like Spott Hogg. Only reason I am leaning to the Option is the single pin multi pin housing.

What are you looking for in pins/housing? From my reading Spott Hogg can put pretty much any kind of housing together you could want.

Just with the Option sight the multi pin housing opens up so you have a single pin. As far as I know they are the only company that does that. I would love to know if someone else does but as far as I know they are the only ones.

Realize the size of the housing will directly effect how much travel you get out of your housing. Single pins put the pin in the center of the housing, where as multiple pins you can use the bottom pin as the slider which can give you an extra 15-20 more yards. The new spot Hogg sights all have the same size housing, so it should easily. E 15-20 yards difference between a single pin and multi pin sight.

Ok, that makes sense. It is a cool feature, just not one I'm interested in. I shoot single pin exclusively....multiple pins just screw me up for some reason (I also hate BDC and MILDOT reticles in rifles for the same reason).

Out of the 8 pin housing the floating pin will bottom out around 100 yards for you. How close or far you have the housing will have an effect on this sort of thing as well. With a 450gr arrow going 280 fps and my sight as far out as it can be the pin bottoms out at 110yards.

Have any of you Option users found an oval-shaped peep to match the housing shape?

I emailed the guys from Option, waiting on a response. I will let you know if they plan on putting one out or not.

I'm curious to hear what they say. This has been "in the works" for two years. I'll be pleasantly surprised if any progress has been made.

I have a 5 pin with the large housing. It's currently mounted on a bow that I haven't put much time into yet. My reservations are with the imprecision in the peep/housing alignment in the windage direction. An oval peep would be just the ticket to solve that issue.

I was looking to do a 4 or a 5 pin in the large housing as well. I am curious if you took out the pins yourself of did you get it customized by Option? reason I as is they want another 40 bucks to customize it. If I can just remove the pins myself and save 40 bucks, I would much rather do that.

I had the pins customized. I wanted the big housing because I like to practice at 100ish yard distances, but I didn't want the clutter of 8 pins.

I have been using the Option 8 since it came out, love it. I typically shoot a heavier arrow and have always got over 100 yards out of the sight.
One thing I recommend to get a bigger range out of the sight is start your tape/top pin at 30. I know that at 10 and 20 my 30 pin is going to be no more than a few inches high. At that close, that means a dead animal for me. What I get in return is 10 more yards added to the end of the range.
I think the Rx-1 Ultra I set up is shooting a 459gr arrow at aprox 285. The Rx-1 Turbo is shooting a 515gr arrow at aprox 280.
Both get about 125 yards out of the Option 8.

I have my fingers crossed that we see it soon. I don't have any secret intel on it's progress, I just know Dan won't release something unless its dialed in.
Not exactly sure what they didn't like about the first oval peeps.

Any word back from Option?

Heard back from Dan. Appears to be the same status as before. They made some prototypes, and they plan on offering a few different size peeps before to long. I have zero clue what to long means but, at least he is working on them.
