Just purchased a new ~ 5.5lb short action Seekins rifle in a moderate recoil profile. Use will be Western hunting and of course lots of range time. Targets out to 1k, hunting 500yrd max, and will run suppressed.

Scope parameters my end
  • First Focal Point and MIL
  • Illuminated reticle
  • Medium weight or less. Medium, as in ideally say 28ish oz or less
  • Moderate price. Don’t have an actual budget number, just don’t need a $3k+ scope. My eyesight is just ok and only going out to a 1,000 yards or so on targets. And I’ve got a great spotting scope

Over the last 2 months, I’ve poured over countless scope specs and reviews. But always seems like a scope has all the aspects but weighs 36oz, or only offered in MOA, or costs $3k, etc.

A couple that I’m looking at (and new to both brands)
  1. Nightforce SHV - 4-14x50mm FFP MIL
  2. Leupold Mark 4HD 4.5-18x52 FFP MIL

A couple on the $$$ stretch list
  1. Leupold Mark 5HD 3.6-18x44 FFP MIL
  2. Nightforce NX8 - 4-32x50mm FFP MIL

I’ve got a Vortex Razor LHT in 3-15x42 that I could run on it but not my first choice. Another option might be a Vortex Viper PST Gen2 in 3-15x44.

Input is much appreciated. Thanks.

As mentioned, the Maven is the easy button, SWFA 3x9 but it lacks illumination. Save yourself the heartburn and skip the Leupold scopes.

The NF options are solid.

It’s Rokslide so my thought on Leupold MK5 is unpopular, my sample of one has been a champ and not been babied.

I like my Trijicon Tenmile a lot and will probably buy another. The Maven looks good too.

I've never been let down by my NX8s. If the 2.5x20 had the longer tube and marginally better eye relief of the 4x32, that would be my favorite. I have multiples of both in Mil-C and have no complaints other than weight but I'll take that penalty for durability.

The 4x32 is the better scope but I like the lower power of the 2.5x20.

How about the NXS might be a good pick, slightly cheaper and lighter. The ATACR 4x16 in Mil-R would be out of your range but also a solid ass scope.

The one trijicon credo i have is solid too and a bit lighter. That would suit you well.

Trijicon tenmile 3-18 would work and can be found for around 1600. I have one and have bumped it a few times, still held zero. I believe the weight is 24oz. Only knock on it, in my opinion, is the reticle but that is just personal opinion, you may like it.
Other scopes mentioned also work, I just do not have experience with them.

Ive got a trijicon tenmile 3-18x44 on my Seekins Element, would recommend it. Can sometimes find it on sale for around $1200
