Opening up a Savage Accustock barrel channel?

I just rebarreled my Savage from a factory spotter to a shorter, larger contour barrel. I'd like to keep the accustock (NOT an Accufit) I have on hand. I'm wondering if anyone has ever opened up an accustocks channel. I'm curious how rigidity was afterwards. I guess id like to hear someone else say "go for it".

I have a 110 tactical with the accustock. Mine touches the barrel on the right side near then end of the fore-end. I need to remove some material to create a gap. I doubt it will reduce stiffness by any measurable amount BUT with the current barrel channel and barrel profile, I dont think ill need to go down into the channel much at all so mine might be a bit different than yours.
