I know onX maps allows users to identify forest fire burns in the U.S. but I don't believe that functions avaliable for Canada. Does anyone have tips for identifying burns in the 3-10 year old range using google earth or another platform?

If you have a particular area of interest, you can get historical imagery off of Google Earth very easily and go back in years

I use Glovis for most of my research projects as I'm familiar with it and choose between years or months to view and pick which satellite I want the data from.

If you chose September or October when in a program, it will be a lot easier to spot fires as the area will lack vegetation and be red or black as opposed to viewing it in the spring or the following summer.

Another option you can do is contact your local/province public land office and ask the fire guys about historical fire data for the area. In the USA, we have a website available where archived fire maps and info is available to us.

Looks like Canada has a fire center as well, but don't know how helpful their website will be!
