Does anyone only replace their bow string and keep the cables in place?

I bought a new to me bow a few months ago and want to replace the main string. The peep cut a little bit of the string but the cables are in great shape and I'm not sure if I should ask a string maker if they'd only put on a new main string? It am I being dumb and I should replace everything at the same time?

When I replace one, I replace them all and when I get a new to me bow,
I want to be sure of what I'm dealing with.

You can absolutely replace just the string. If the cables are new there is no reason to replace them. If they look worn I would replace everything.

Just get a new string. I just replaced my string for the same reason. Had a nock break last summer and shot the peep out which cut a few strands. It was fine for hunting season still but i order a new string from my string maker and replaced after the season was over.

Yes you can definitely replace just the string. I would have your tec look it over and make sure the cables are still in good shape.

You can just replace the string if you wish. As long as everything is in time and in tune, you will be fine.

Replaced just the sting a number of times...no issue, just tune the bow. It really helps to take a bunch of detailed measurements as well as photos of cam positions at rest and full draw too, top and bottom. Record axle to axle on each side of the bow, brace height, nock height, peep height, etc. Also record or mark the settings for let-off if adjustable, as you often have to remove the limbstops to replace the string....depending on the bow and press.
