Took my Exo 5500 on a winter hunt recently. I just wanted to relate some thoughts about it.

The simple and short version is: "It just works."
The Exo pack is simple, well thought out. And just makes sense.
It is well made too.
No complicated things to figure out.

I am experimenting with Kifaru too. But to this point. It just isn't all the things the Exo is.

So, I just want to give Exo a thumbs up for a simple, well thought out, quality product.

I liked the layout of the EXO, had the 3500 but wish I got the 5500. Just curious which Kifaru are you playing with?

I found a pack frame that fit my body the best with the Exo. It's just the way the adjustment in the frame is laid out for my back and body shape, it fit the best of any I've tried so far. Though the 5500 has more room than the advertised 5500 cu, I wished it was bigger for 10+ day backcountry hunts where you have to carry loads of food with you and aren't able to have food drops.

Heavy is heavy regardless of pack make or model but it can make 130 pounds feel like torture or it can make 130 pounds feel like your being murdered slowly. When things get that heavy, they are just heavy (whole sheep, camp, gear or whole deer, camp, gear etc. for ten + miles).

My thoughts are very similar with my EXO 3500. It was my first real pack and still am intrigued by a Kifaru frame but don't have the $$$ to just give one a try. The only thing I would change about the EXO frame would be to have more tab loops like the Kifaru frame has. I trained most of last summer with 80 lbs. in the load shelf with no issues.

God Bless.

Exo is very good. I love their frame. But nothing compares to kifarus suspension. If I could have a dream lack it would be Exos frame with kifarus suspension.

i would like to see a lid with more ci's from exo with a heavier duty zipper on it. i think my biggest complaint is the lid. i do like how it stays in place but its pretty easy to fill up with my go to items and the zipper has pulled apart numerous times. its always on my mind and check it frequently as i have big $ items in there. so far been lucky and have lost nothing yet. overall i like the simplicity of the whole package.

Glad you are enjoying the pack and appreciate the simplicity we designed into it. One of our main design goals is always to balance simplicity and functionality as best as possible. If you have any questions on anything along the way just let me know.

Love that quote about being murdered slowly cause that is exactly the way it feels. I have been running the exo since it has come out and have packed a shitload of animals out with it. I have found the exo very comfortable to about 80/100 pounds. After that, the murdering slow part comes in..................
When you are in the field, you never know just how much weight you exactly have in a pack so weights are an estimate. My brother this year packed 2 entire rear elk quarters in an exo while I was packing an entire boned out deer and gear. It just was not fun, however the packs did fine and handled the loads.

Exo customer service is great. My pack got chewed bye my dog. It had a couple blood spots on it. That I didn't see. Sent a email to exo. The next day I had a email back. Steve said send it back. We will fix it for a reasonable cost.....
