I have never had any issue with my current lamp. I am thinking about NOT carrying a back up or other light source.
Anyone else only carry ONE source of light?

I dont have that much faith in any lamp, not even old faithful that I've used for the last 6 years or so with out issue. I'll always carry a spare, piece of mind with minimal weight penalty.

I always carry at least two. A fenix, Princeton tec and a very small led light on a zipper pull.

I've never had a failure with a headlamp in the field or at home and I use one daily doing chores. However, I still carry an exta Petzl e-LITE that has a weight penalty of under an ounce. Main headlamp is a Zebralight.

Pretty much the same here. The clip on the Fenix can be spun backwards and clipped to the bill of your hat for a makeshift head lamp or you can put a coupla wraps of tap around it and attach it to an elastic band. Weighs nothing and doesn't take up any space.

Trick to it all is making sure they all use the same batteries.

I always carry a backup light. The ones out now are very dependable but batteries die, gear gets lost, and stuff gets smashed/broken or otherwise made unusable all the time. My lighting kit is an Everyready headlamp I bought at an auto parts store years ago, extra batteries, and a Fenix light that rides right next to the multitool on my belt whenever I leave the asphalt. Although the Everready is heavier than most I really like the ease of use that comes with it.

I only carry one flashlight, and a backup battery for it. But, my partner also carries one. If I were going solo I would probably carry a small button light like the others have mentioned.

Yep two here as well. Not worth the risk for such a small weight.
That said, my backup IS very small and resides next to my fire kit.
The one I use is called the Cyclops Atom (<1oz) and uses the common CR2032 flat watch & calculator battery.
I very rarely use it, but know it's there if/when I need it.

Everything will fail eventually - always carry a back up. The time you will need it is when it will fail.

Yeah. Carry a back-up. I had a brand new one (that never failed all summer) start flickering and blinking out on me the first night I used to hike out from hunting. It was like September came and the light wanted time off from working in any sort of consistent manner....glad I had a back-up even though it usually just takes a little shake to set it straight.

I carry 2 lights of some sort. 1 headlamp and a small flashlight. This year I am going to carry 2 headlamps. Had one headlamp failed on me on a pack out in a dark canyon at night. Glad I had my spare!!

I always take two sources of light! No flashlights! Only head-lamps! One thing I have learned the hard way is if you leave the batteries out and just put them in when it is close to dark you will not have a headlamp with dead batteries because something in your pack turned it on during the pack in! Plus I carry a spare set for each head lamp. Just what I have gone through. Always glad I had a spare! Bob.

I also always carry a spare. Light is just so important, not just for safety but for morale in a crappy situation. I carry one of three "big" headlamps (200 lum) and then a simple head-band style. I almost consider the smaller lamp as part of a survival/SHTF part of what I pack and weight/space is minimal.

I carry my princeton tec as well as a small tripod flashlight. It's like a gorilla pod but with a flashlight on top, Works great to attach to trees, trucks, rocks or just sit on the ground. If I will be going super light, that usually stays behind and I only carry a headlamp.
