Looking at getting my first bivy. Will be used for solo shots hiking and on my horse... if really nice it will be used alone under a tree, if chance of rain I will use my go-lite poncho as a tarp. I will also probably use it under my ti goat tipi tent.

Seems these are pretty similar in function. Just mostly wondering if center zip is better, or how the cuben fiber compares to what ti goat uses. I think I am too big for ptarmigan. I like the looks of the kestrel but for the 1 ounce i like the added protection of the omni.

Any other suggestions would be great as well.

thanks

Joe

I don't own the TI goat or the z packs, but three on my friends have the new omni raven bivy. They are very light well made and very roomy. As far as the z packs personally I am not sold on the cuben fiber. I have a cuben tarp and it's noisy and super thin and doesn't pack down like sil nylon or other similar material. I have looked at that z packs bivy for a few months and would love to see one up close

I have the Omni Raven Bivy and really like it.

I haven't used the Zpacks one yet but would really like to try it.

I haven't noticed a difference in packability between cuben and sil-nylon myself.

I've got the Raven Omni and have had some trouble with condensation. It's sort of a given with bivy bags if you close 'em up all around you. Otherwise, I love the packability.
