So I recently picked up this older Montana Rifle Co. X2 in 6.5 creedmoor. Took it out shooting today and after loading rounds in the magazine and shooting the bottom round in the mag is tipped down and caught on the front edge of the metal.

My best guess is as I’m running the bolt, the bolt is catching the next round from the mag and feeding it into the chamber but is also contacting the second round and pushing it forward. Any body experience something like this with other controlled round feed actions? or even an MRC X2? In the middle two pics you can see the bottom round pushed down and last pic of the bullet is the nick or marring on the bullet from getting caught. (Sorry for the bad pictures, just couldn’t get a good angle in the action with the scope in the way)

Take a pic of the front of the mag box from the bottom with the floorplate open.

There should be nothing to catch on in a mag box. Smooth walls from bottom metal to action. It should be continuous all the way until it is very close to the floorplate/bottom metal. It shouldn't be tight, but it shouldn't have big gaps.

Usually something like that is a spring issue. A careful tweak to provide more upward pressure on the front of the follower should fix it.

I’ll snap one when I get home this evening! The mag walls do go down quite aways but I think there is an 1/8” fan before the plate.

The spring is weak for sure, at least compared to my buddies rem 700.
Stretch it out and try again. If it works, there’s your answer. Then buy a new spring.

Also, make sure the magazine box is not bound up by the bottom metal. There should be some play to it if it’s in square. If the magazine box is not installed square, the follower could be sticking.

I’ll give it a once over! Thanks!
