One our local breweries put out a challenge and dubbed it the Helena Ridge Challenge; if you finish it (in a day) you get a free beer. They want you to hike five different ridge trails, but you also have to link those trails together. Pouring over a map the shortest route we came up with was ~17 miles, so we got up early (to 25° temps) and gave it a go.
The two guys who joined me are 30 years my junior and their pace is a bit quicker than mine, so it made a bit more difficult just keeping up with them.
We racked up a little over 17 miles and 3000' of gain and checked off each required section of trail. Took us 5.5 hour to complete, right at 3 mph.
Went to the brewery and showed them our gps route and each got a free beer (won't lie, one of the best beers I've ever had
). Oh and for $20 we could buy a t-shirt too, which we all did—so in the end I think they still made some money on us!
