OG/OG6.5 Specific AR upper?

Thinking about building a light weight AR upper for use with my OG6.5 for fun/shooting in the mountains.
14.5 barrel?
10” handguard?
Should I be worried about over gassing the shit out of it?
Any brand specific handguards and barrels for this?

I already abuse my OGs on my AR at the range when I run out of my TMK reloads for the day, it’s gassy but I’ve done absolutely zero spring changes.

Could look into KAK downvent bcg, stiffer Springco springs and an AGB… Riflespeed is nice but expensive. Superlative is good too and cheaper.

Could also save money by doing a BRT tube. That and a stiffer spring + heavier buffer might make a big difference for not too much money.

What is your current rifle setup?

Hilariously lame bushmaster xm-15. Straight up m4 copy boring. Factory rifle. FSB.

I really just want a shorter/lighter upper for dicking around on snowmobiles and just a throw it in the truck for plinking in the mountains. If it’s a small enough form factor to pack on the horse that would be cool but not likely given the ARs lack if sleek lines. If it ends up accurate that’s great anyway. Already shooting a 223 tikka.

If it’s always gonna be suppressed you could check also out 11.5” uppers with mid length gas systems. I think KAK has a complete one. Pair with their downvent BCG for less port pop.

Downside is it won’t cycle without a suppressor to add backpressure.

That’s actually not a bad idea.

Another thought is should I just say screw it and go 6arc? Match ammo is same price or cheaper than 77tmks.

6 arc is sweet but something nice about keeping the number of distinct calibers to a minimum if you’re already shooting .223

I’m in a similar boat though. Eyeing a mid length 11.5 to reduce gas and 6 arc has always been interesting to me

My spare time is really limited for my hobbies. So reloading is getting more and more tedious. So 6arc being the same price for loaded ammo is really starting to interest me.

Gordys gone man. I’ve always loved that rifle. If A2 uppers weren’t so absolutely stupid priced I would build one so fast. If the rifle ends up accurate with a good gas system and barrel I’ll probably put my triji 3-9 on it for a while.

I meant buffer, gas length, etc.

An H2 buffer and new spring would help with the gas to face quite a bit. You shouldn’t need any of the “fixes” with an OG on a normal AR.
