Offline Elk Education Course?

I'm headed west in September with a partner. I've hunted with him before, although not for elk. I've done it a lot and been pretty successful. He's also elk hunted a fair amount but is still looking for his first.

I'd like for us to be on the same page while hunting together and thought it might be cool to look at one of the educational offerings. Calling, set ups, scenarios - that sort of thing. We don't live close to each other, so it would need to be something we could each do separately and then be able to talk about by phone and during the trip.

The reason I'm wondering about offline content is that he lives in the sticks with slow internet. I don't think that an online course would work for him. I have Elknut's audio CD's and learned a bunch from them so that is an option. I'm going to listen to them again as a refresher and then give them to my buddy.

Any other recommendations?

ElkNut Playbook might be a good option. ElkNut's PlayBook - Elk Hunting Instruction

I think the Elk101 UEH course has an app that you can download the modules for offline use. If he can't download them from his house he could maybe take a drive somewhere into town with public wifi that he could use to download them offline.

Thanks Rdog, I'll look into that. Do you know if we would we each have to purchase the app individually or is it something we could split and share? UEH is probably the cream of the crop and I'd like to do it. Not sure if I can talk him into that much though. Tech savvy he is not. And if he had to download away from home then he would just have it on his phone correct? I think I'll email Cory with my questions.

Elk101 also has a DVD. Or at least there used to be. I learned a bunch from it concerning set ups and the thermals.

I've seen a bunch of the Roe stuff and they are good. Might have to see if I can remember how to record a dvd of them for my buddy to watch.
I did send an email to check on the Elk101 course and see if there is an offline version available. Also saw their DVD and that looks good.
Thanks for the suggestions.

Whip, you may want to consider the ElkNut APP, it goes well beyond the older Cd's you have. The combo of the Playbook & APP is a very deadly combination.

Hey Joe!

I received your email and replied, but yes, when you sign up as a Member of the UEH Online Course, you get full access to the entire course on your computer, which includes all the text, images, videos, etc., included in the course. You can also download the mobile app, which automatically gives you access to all the text and images included in the course to be viewed offline.

Within the app, you can also download any of the videos you would like, so you have access to them offline (while in the field) as well. The app doesn’t automatically download all the videos, as they are quite large, but you can choose which ones you want to download and have available offline. The computer course and log-in are tied directly to the mobile app, so you can access both platforms at any time.

If you are considering signing up, I'd strongly suggest waiting until the last week of May...we will be running a killer promotion starting then, and it might make it worthwhile to wait a couple weeks before signing up… ;-)

Thanks Joe!

Concur with everyone above. I've used RHR, Elknut, and UEH.

I personally prefer RHR and Elknut for calling strategy (Despite Corey being the best technical caller in the world), and then UEH for the best produced / all around Elk Hunting course.

I'll throw in that there are a lot of great downloadable podcasts on this too. Gritty Bowmen early episodes with Corey, Phelps. Jay Scott Outdoors. Etc.

The ElkNut app is top notch. It very clearly describes and provides examples of the different calls you would want to make. Getting in his head with what he'd do in various scenarios is priceless.

Thanks Paul. I was actually originally part of the beta test deal that you offered but ended up with a new phone before it rolled out so never tried it. But I did just download it now so thank you. (and I already have the playbook)

And Corey, I'll be watching for the deal the end out this month - thank you!

Good deal bud! As you can see the version you just downloaded is huge in comparison to the testing phase one. Make sure you & your buddy use the Recording feature to polish up your calling, this is a huge asset! Let me know if you have any questions, good luck to you guys!

Paul, thanks for posting, grabbed the app last night and used it during my morning pup hike that I usually always practice calling on. Thanks, helped tweak a few things already from it, great information. Ordering the playbook as well to read this pre-season and bring along in the wood, appreciate your knowledge you bring.
