Off season for the dogs 26

For “canned” quail it’s open all year around on private property and the dog training areas on public land. Now the problem is finding quail for sale and dealing with the heat. I have a local guy that still has a few birds for sale and we typically have one last cold front move through before Easter. I was suppose to go this morning but couldn’t pull it together maybe next weekend…

We will probably train steadiness and backing for the rest of her life. I think she will get spayed in about two months.

If you own a pointing dog you will train steadiness for the rest of their life if you want them broke.

How late can you run your dogs? End of March? Great off season work..

SD has always shut it down end of March. They took those dates out of the handbook this year so far as I know we can work through spring and summer.

My lab is in the beginning stages of learning how to be a big brother this off season. I woke up Saturday morning to an empty bed and kennel, went down stairs, and found Cooper comforting my wife in the early stages of labor. Usually, he’s glued to me, but I couldn’t call him off her and he was hyper-aggressive to any “weird” sound around the house. Never showed any sign that he knew she was pregnant until then, but know he did. Dogs are incredible.

I arrived with one dog, and somehow went home with just that one same dog.

My dog and I went out to the trainer's today to work on backing. He has four female English pointer puppies that he held back a few extra weeks to figure out which one(s) he wants to keep for his program.

It took a lot for me not to bring one home, but I'm sure I'll have to say no for the next few months when we go out there.
