Off grid hot water heater

Interested in your experience and opinion of this.
I’m going to build a camper next year and I’m looking for options.
PM works when you get the time. Thanks.
I have zero complaints. We use it for my whole house. Shoot me a PM if you need any particulars.

A standard propane tank water heater doesn’t need power, light the pilot and the control runs from the thermocouple once the pilot light warms it up, no power necessary

That is what I am looking for. Hopefully that is still the case. A lot of the ones I found online seemed to require power for the igniter. I think on a lot of them pilot lights have been done away with and now the igniter is electric. I guess that gets rid of the risk of a gas leak if the pilot lights goes out. Hopefully one fitting my needs is not as hard to find as it looked online. I just won’t have time to look in person for a couple weeks

Rheem water heater that I ordered from Home Depot is what we have at our cabin.

Piezoelectric igniter for the pilot and that is it

I went propane tankless. Works great. They don't use much power at all...you definitely could power it with solar.

We have a propane water heater (Bradford White) and propane fridge/freezer (Dometic) in our off grid camp. Both have Piezo igniters. Never a problem with either.

A buddy's camp fridge requires a battery for ignition. While running his generator, it charges the battery. When he leaves camp he connects the battery to a photo cell to keep it topped off.
