NXS vs NX8 vs ATACR

I could see where that ocular rotating would take a bit to getting used to if ever. So for an overall pick you would probably stick to your NX8’s?

I can’t say 100% yet. Besides the ocular rotating I really like the ATACR.

I don’t care about the 1.4oz difference. Some people might.

If I can get used to the ocular rotating the ATACR would probably be my choice if money wasn’t an issue.

I have a NX8 4-32 F1 and a Atacr 4-16x42
For competitive shooting or target shooting, with some hunting use NX8 4-32
For strictly hunting id go atacr 4-16x42 all the way. Its only 1 ounce heavier, but is alot easier to get behind, no low power tunneling, and a locking turret. The ocular rotation doesn't matter and I dont see what the big deal is.

Ive used all three lines. The 4-16 ATACR is the most useful of them all. Just bought another from a member.
The 2-10 NXS is a great scope if you don’t mind SFP. I’ve never found it to be a hindrance hunting. I zero at 200, hold high out to 300 hundred. Crank it to 10x and dial if it’s farther. That has worked for me for a lot of years and a lot of animals.

I have the NX8 2.5-20 SFP. I have never had any other Nightforce scopes, but I have had the Leupold VX5 3-15 and the Razor LHT 3-15. The NX8 is far superior to those.

Currently building a long range hunting rifle and starting to look at optics. Looking at pros and cons of the three main Nightforce rifle lines. Thank you.
I have both the atacr 4-16x42 f1 mil r and a NX8 4-32x50 f1. I can confirm that the atacr is the way to go if you can afford the extra money. Are the differences really worth the money is the real question as it is completely subjective. You really can't go wrong with NX8 models. They are dope, period. However, you get slightly better image quality, more forgiving eyebox and imo an easier to see reticle at min magnification with atacr models. The price jump is super questionable to a first time buyer as it is was what I experienced. I'm however the kind of guy who wants the best of the best when it comes to my toys. I love both scopes for different applications. NX8 for long range target shooting (and it does the job to suit my needs very well). Atacr however is a more do it all and do it very well scope. If I had to choose one and part with the other- I would be a very unhappy man. Though I would part with the NX8 and keep the atacr. I would suggest anyone in this predicament to do as I did- buy the NX8 and fall in love with Night force optics. Buy the Atacr when you want a slight upgrade for your next build you want a dedicated scope for. At the end- you will love them both.

I think the ocular rotating on the ATACR is dope. I hated it when I first saw it but after using it once and then using it in the real world of quick magnification change - it is super intuitive. Just wrap your manly paw around the tube and twist. I find it faster under pressure. No need for looking or feeling around for the power throw lever.

I have the 4-20 and the 4-16 atacr and they have treated me very well, i havent dabbled much with the higher mag NX8s but i just picked up the nx8 1-8 and dont hate the eyebox its still workable esp for a hunting application you can have some more time to get a better sight picture

How do the 4-16 and 4-20 compare? Seems there’s more positive things said about the 4-16 in general.

In my experience the 4-20 is quite different. Obviously more mag/bigger obj but no locking, low profile elevation turret. The 4-20 is kinda a shrunken version of the 5-25 and has similar features, the 4-16 is it's own animal.

i like having the additional mag on my 6.5 gasser while keeping in mind railspace, the 4-16 is better to look through slightly but vs the 5-25 i wanted a smaller package and didnt think i was losing out on much

I have the NXS 2.5-10x42 and the ATACR 4-16x50 (both SFP). ATACR is, as you'd expect, a slightly sharper image. Never had issues with the eyebox of either. If you're building a lightweight mountain-type rifle I'd suggest the NXS, if its a truck gun, the ATACR is great. Both are built like a tanks and have nice tactile turrets, though the ATACR is nicer in that regard. The ocular bell turning for zoom on the ATACR takes a little getting used to but I don't see it as a "con'.
Zoom turning entire eye piece bothers me less than I thought it would.
