I leave at 6am tomorrow heading toward Edmonton then Sunday on to Norman Wells.
This is 5 years in the making.

However, first stop is Yellowknife and it doesn’t look good.
Who is else is going to NWT this weekend ?

Prayers for the people of NWT.

Man,
I'm pulling for you! That connection through Yellow Knife could be tricky. Keeping my fingers crossed you get to Norman Wells and on to camp w/o too much hassle. Good luck!

Prepare for some delays in Edmonton they are evacuating to there. I know most of the flights going out of Yellowknife are going there. Currently they are are not airlifting people out but Yellowknife has been placed under an evacuation order. The one road heading south was still open on the last report I heard but given the logistics of roughly 20000 people to evacuate and only one 2 lane highway (not completely safe from being closed by fire itself) and limited fueling options I suspect airlifted people out will occur if they don't catch a break.
I hope everything goes in their favor but prepare yourself for delays and dealing with people who may not be displaying Canadian's stereotypical politeness.

So, you fly to Yellowknifeand actually get out to camp. Hunt sheep for ten days.
How do you plan on getting home if the worst case scenario occurs and there is massive destruction to infrastructure to YZF?

I would call the outfitter and get a reality check.

Following this thread now. This seems like a bad deal for everyone involved. With Yellowknife evacuating, I'll be curious if the NWT outfitters have any clever ways to get hunters to and from base camps.

There is probably another way and your outfitter would have contacted you if there was going to be an issue (i would hope!). Norther Rockies airport in Fort Nelson for one might have connections to edmonton, it could be an option. There are other airports you could be driven too, it will work out. Good luck on your hunt!

Thoughts and prayers to those affected by wildfires. Hoping for rain!

Airlifting people started yesterday (Aug. 17) and is in full swing today. Expecting 20+ flights out of YZF today, both commercial and military.

just to add they airlifted 1500 people yesterday and we received our first refugees in whitehorse today.

seems they will fly again tomorrow some people out and only essential workers are to be stayed in yellowknife.

yukon bc and alberta (for bc and alberta i cant say that much but here it is well stated in our emergency measures) essential workers has been asked and tasked to be on standbye.

all prayers and thoughts ssent to all those affected.

OP it might be hard to even reach yellowknife or even leave yellowknife for norman wells.

what your outfitter told you on the situation?

On the way out the horns antler have to be checked in the wells at fish and game. Usually the hunter accompanies them but not required.

If Yellowknife is out for the hunter to enter or they will go via Whitehorse.
I just checked in to my flight Saturday from Edmonton to Whitehorse and no issues so far. Then usually catch charter into the Mackenzie’s. Heading up for six weeks so fingers crossed all goes well.

so your flight with ACA is maintained? they are using all the ressources to put people out im surprised but wish you the best and stay safe. they should have changed and planned edmonton to whitehorse then inuvik then norman wells. but in that case that will not have been with air canada.
for info inuvik is on evacuation alert as well ... fires are everywhere and yes we got a lot of rain too.
