NV new guy

Welcome! Can't help you to much with know the unit but both areas turn out some great animals. Shoot every day with that bow and remember that if you do hit a critter to back off and let him expire. My grandpa hit some nice bucks after rifle hunting his whole life and ended up losing them due to pushing them too soon. The excitement can get to you pretty easily
Thanks! I ended up with 291 which I think will work well being so close to home and I’ve covered a lot of that area on my dirtbike. For Elk I got 76, 77, 79, and 81. Don’t know much about that area but I’ve only just started researching

291 can be tough.but there's big deer. We used to see them in there lion hunting. Grandpa said he saw one once that had a rack as wide as the windshield of a 90s tacoma. It probably wasn't that big but still a huge deer.

The elk tag is a great hunt as well. Some really nice bulls in it

That echos what I’ve found out so far, appreciate the reinforcement. I’ve covered a lot of ground in the pinenuts and haven’t seen a lot of deer, but have some ideas on where to scout. I’ve also seen a giant mountain lion in the same area I’d start looking, was right off the single track I was riding, not scared of the bike.

They can be pretty bold

Been in 291 a time or two looking for deer. There’s some great bucks around the south eastern part of the unit on the Smith Valley side of the range. Best advice I could give u is to glass through your binos/spotting scope from the moment you can see until the heat waves make it near impossible then glass some more. These bucks will bed down in short brush and watch people thinking they’ve seen everything because it’s open country drive by them 50 yards away. Don’t be afraid to hunt down low either, not everything has to live in the top of the mountain especially with prime alfalfa fields in the valley;).

Welcome Matt. I'm in Carson City too. I have a super busy season myself, or I'd see if I could come help you. I was in that unit in early November helping my buddy on his bear tag, and I saw a really nice buck in there. Let me know, I can drop a pin where I saw him.

I’ll shoot you a pm. Thanks!
