Slim Jim
WKR
I knocked down this buck on the opening morning. It's not the biggest buck but my freezer is looking slim and I have a UT tag next week.
I was creeping to my morning glassing spot, checking for bucks along the way just inside timberline to not be seen. As I was glassing, I spotted a fork feeding at 100 yards. I kept creeping and looking for other bucks with him. At 35 yards I picked up two other bucks with him. One was a 26" wide thin 3 point and my buck. I stopped and watched with an arrow ready. I thought the bucks were going to step out to my left but instead they walked another ten yards towards me then the fork dipped out of the cover right in front of me at 22 yards. The buck froze and looked right at me. I stood there frozen myself for about 3 minutes until the 3 point got curious as to what the hold up was and stepped out. He looked through me with an eerie glare then busted out with the fork. The 4x3 stayed there behind a tree not knowing what happened. All I could see was part of his rack and his chest barely sticking out quartering to me. I made the quick decision that if I hugged the tree and snuck the arrow just in front of his shoulder blade that it would catch front lung on the other side of him. There was no room for error but at 22 yards I was confident I could make the shot. As I released the arrow, I knew it hit true! Thwack!! The buck ran straight downhill then hooked left on a bench about 50 yards and fell. When I walked up to the buck and seen where the arrow exited, I knew that I made the right decision. The arrow exited center of lung. Now next week in UT it's magnum buck or tag soup. With a little luck I think it'll be big buck down.
