For anyone wanting to grab a Nunatak zipperless/hoodless bag, now is your chance.

After running a Feathered Friends Tanajer for the last couple years, I went ahead and picked up a custom 22 degree Sastrugi in the exact specs that I wanted.

These seem like a good price, how is the quality on these? I've never owned a down or backpacking style bag before. Would this be a good starter? I plan on doing some hunting in wilderness areas this winter.

I’ve been looking at the Tanager but the Nunatak you posted looks like a better option. After using the Tanager, interested in hearing what custom changes you made.

Just went a bit wider, over filled down, more durable shell. The Tanajer has been great, I just felt like I could get a bit more comfort out of the Nunatak. Not saying the Tanajer is bad at all though.

Thanks. I was thinking going 15d, wider, overfill, and draft collar on the Nunatak.

@B_Reynolds_AK how do you think the Sastrugi and the FF Tanager you had would hold up to the autumn rains of southcentral/southeast AK on a 10 day hunt? Any concern of moisture knocking down the loft too much? October can be rain rain rain around Homer, Kodiak, and farther south.

The Sastrugi would do better, due to being over filled. A highly technical bag like the Tanager has the minimal fill required to meet a temp rating. It doesn’t take much moisture to greatly affect it. I have no problem using my Nunatak in coastal environments, it just takes diligent effort to ensure you air out the bag and dry it when possible, before it gets too far gone to recover while out on a trip.

Thanks for the feedback. I’m on the fence due to moisture concerns. I did get on Nunatak’s August list and they said it would be a quick turnaround on making them. May give that a shot.
