I see a lot of people asking about gear choices for NRL Hunter matches, so I figured a thread to discuss what each of us is using would be helpful.

Rifle: Open Light Division (12 pounds or less)

Support gear:
Other Gear:

I'll edit to add items as I think of them.

I'll play...

I'm shooting factory. I drug my heels to get into NRL Hunter (have done lots of PRS (and NRL race gun, and unaffiliated race gun) due to not wanting to build a dedicated rifle to shoot 1 or 2 matches a year. When they opened up factory to 6mm, I decided to jump in with a Seekins 6 Creed as it was cheaper than building a dedicated custom AND I'd use it double duty for hunting. Through good fortune I've had the opportunity to shoot six elk with that Seekins.

Rifle:
- Seekins PH2 6 Creed
- TT Field Trigger (came with, can't change per rules, took some time adjusting to a 2.5 lbs pull)
- NX8 4-32 w/ Mil-C
- NF Ultralight rings
- APA Little Bastard Gen 3
- SRS Arca style rail up front using factory sling stud mounting location
- MDT Triple Pull, no mods (included here as it has to make weight)
*** It seems to shoot phenomenal when clean, less so when it gets dirty. Like .8 vs 1.8 MOA for 10. Hopefully the cleaning I'm doing currently causes it to come around or I'll be shooting a Tikka 243 on Saturday.

Support Gear:
- OG Game Changer with Git-Lite
- Leofoto 362 tripod with MA-30 head, starts strapped to my pack with a tac table on top

Other:
- Revic BLR10b rangefinding binos in original style FHF bino harness (with wind checker bottle on the side)
- Masking tape on arm + Sharpie for recording dope
- Voice memo recording of me counting down time at my preferred intervals, was listening via earbud under my ear pro, am going to try just playing out loud on my phone next match
- Primary and backup AICS 10 rd mags, always load 9 to have a backup round even in dire circumstances, was keeping it in my pocket but am going to bother with a belt mounted mag holder next match
- Mystery Ranch 3 Day Assault-ish pack from their garage sale
- Maven RF and hard dope card on rifle for a backup

I think my biggest advantage is the tall tripod with tac table strapped to my pack. I toss my pack down and start ranging off the tripod tac table still strapped in. If there isn't a lot of movement and the first target is reasonable to find I'm usually writing down my first target's dope inside 30s.

Rifle: open heavy or open light depending on config
  • Bergara B14 HMR 6.5cm, took the barreled action and dropped in a manners prs1 stock
  • Trigger tech diamond
  • Area419 hellfire or SRS 3 port
  • Area419 12” arcalock
  • Area419 match rings
  • Leupold mkiv 20moa rail
  • Area419 barricade stop
  • Nightforce SHV 4-14x50 f1 milxt
  • 140gr eldm hand loads
Support gear:
  • Leofoto SA-324cx w/ma40x head
  • MDT mountain bipod or Harris sl-m w/podloc and area419 arcalock
  • Armageddon gear shmedium heavy fill
  • Cheap ass tac table w/griptape
Other:
  • Sig Kilo3000 binos
  • Kestel 5700
  • Stone glacier sentinel harness w/ballistics pouch
  • Kifaru woodsman
  • Sunrise tactical arm bad
  • Expo wet erase pens
  • Magpul aics magsx3
  • Esstac aics mag holster
  • Spiritus TKO pouch
  • Walker razor lite
  • Spare rangefinder, kestrel, and ear pro batteries
  • Gerber multi tool with appropriate bits

11lbs 15.5oz:
Tikka t3x with a PVA prefit 6.5cm, barrel has been wrought iron fluted by Kampfeld, and cut to 24.5" by Spartan Precision to drop some weight.
Berger 153.5s in Peterson brass, h4350. 2630fps
Lumley titanium bolt handle, custom teak bolt knob made by me
SRS optics pic rail, and full length arca rail
Warne MTN tech rings, Leupold mark4hd pr3 reticle
Rokstok
CTR bottom metal and 2 mags with 6 in each. I noticed at the end of the Madras match, that rounds 7 and 8 almost never got shot, but their tips got mashed from recoil, so now I run 6 and always cycle them when I reload.
Able Co theorem S with their new brake end cap
Mdt Ckye pod single pull with fat trimmer and RRS clamp. Going to be trying out the R3 Development legs when I can get a set. They attach to any Ckye pod, are carbon legs that extend to 40", and the lower leg itself if the twist lock control.
Two vets qdt ls inverted with SRS tac table direct threaded to the apex

Main support bag is a Without warning heathen bag made by drengr precision, very similar to a schmedium, with their proprietary heavy fill. I also carry a pint size with sand and a pint size with git lite, as well as a large AG fat bag. The AG fat bags/pump pillows are probably the most under utilized but most valuable pieces of support gear in my opinion, great way to make a marginal position just good enough.

Kifaru scout(or tailgunner or something) hip pack. Just barely big enough, looks like a hobo camp, but it's super fast. I run a carabineer through a loop on my tac table and clip that to my shoulder strap.

Sunrise tactical wrist band, expo wet erase is my go to, but always have a few grease pens for if it rains. I write range as well as dope, and take a picture after each stage is over. This has been an easy way to collect data for the match and what targets I hit/miss and why.

Leica 3200.coms, these will be getting upgraded to Geovid Pros by the end of the year.

Also carry a RRS tvc13 with an anvil30, since I don't have a triple pull, this is my emergency tripod for if I need to be super stable and also tall. I've used it twice in 3 matches, but it's light and makes me feel good, so I continue to carry it just in case.

I'm probably forgetting something, but that's the main stuff.

11lbs 1oz with brake and 11lbs 5-6oz with suppressor
Zermatt Origin
Carbon 6 7.5 twist 6.5 Creed Barrel by Soldier Mountain Arms now and formerly a proof 6.5 creed prefit
Berger 153.5s at 2630 with H4350 and Lapua brass
APA little bastard Gen 3 or Silencerco Scythe TI
TT Diamond
XLR Element MG 4.0 with folder, carbon stock, ergo tactical deluxe grip, bag rider, and thumb shelf
Vortex Razor LHT 4.5-22 in Seekins PMR rings
MDT Send it level gen 2
Double pull ckye pod
I run two MDT 12 round mags with 10 in them. I see tip damage as well like Jon mentioned, but I rarely get that low in the mag and I haven’t seen significant effects on trajectory
Mystery Ranch beartooth 80 for my pack
Leofoto LN404 with adapter for anvil 30 as main tripod
I’m going to run a Leofoto 324clx as a second tripod in cody this weekend
Sig Kilo 3k binos that I Bluetooth to my kestrel 5700 sportsman
Schmedium game changer heavy fill
Pint size and maybe full size gamechanger with lite fill
Just a cheap arm board from Amazon with a note card in for a template. I use cheap wet erase markers if it’s dry and tape and sharpie or grease pen if it’s wet
Marsupial bino harness with phone holder and sunglasses holder. I’ll run a Bluetooth speaker on my backpack with the talking timer app for time. The kestrel fits perfectly in the sunglasses holder

Gun
-Tikka T3x 6.5 creedmoor 24" CTR takeoff barrel from a buddy who had to have a proof - 15lb - 15 ounces
-KRG Bravo with FL arca on fore end, arca spigot, krg internal fore end weight, MDT external mloc weights, and krg LOP spacer weight.
-DA Nomad XC can with burn proof cover and RecoilX brake front cap
-Kahles 624i with SKRM2 reticle - pulled from my heavy gun as I wasn't sure what scope to use
-MPA BA one-piece scope mount
-Sendit 2 level
-Atlas CAL 2? Long? I dont know exact model, legs are one step longer than the short ones. RRS ARCA/Pic clamp
-144 Berger LRHT over H4350 @ 2675 FPS. Barrel is slow and I have to load too hot with 140 hybrids to get PF.

Using MDT 12 rd and Accurate 10 round mags kept in SAP mag holsters

Support Equip
-RRS TFCT 24L tripod (anvil incorporated in apex)
-LS wild lite plate and bag, clamped into anvil to start stage, light bag Velcroed to plate
-Pint sized game changer bag with git-lite fill (rear bag typically if prone)
-Schmedium plus 1 game changer with heavy fill (primary front support or rear if more height needed than pint sized offers)
I have ended up shooting off the tripod a lot at the one venue i've shot all my NRL matches at. Typically i ditch the plate and clip into the anvil to shoot after using plate/bag to find and range targets. The light flat bag is not as stable as a heavy fill GC or clipped in.

I'm transitioning on tripods a bit. The shortness of sections in the 24L and having twist locks at bottom is a definite disadvantage vs longer inverted legs. Have a Leofoto SO-282 CMX now with ma-30, likely going to get a heavier/taller inverted gamer tripod still.

-Sig Kilo 10k gen 2 binos - currently in for warranty repair for a gritty/lashing focus wheel
-Kuiu large bino harness (should really replace this as I dislike the binos being directly connected to shoulder straps.)
-Painters tape around my wrist and a sharpie for writing dope
-Stone Glacier xcurve 3600 solo pack - My day or overnight hunting pack, not enough organization in this one for a shooting pack for my tastes. I might have a seek outside gila 3500 pack stashed away that i'll try instead.
-OBI link quick connects on shoulder straps, OBI tripod stud, and a OPI flush cup stud. Tripod in quick connect at start of stage to save a few seconds setting up to glass. I clip rifle into the other shoulder strap with the flush cup stud if carrying it a ways.
-Got a Sper Scientific talking timer recently, haven't used it yet.

If starting from scratch i'd be hard pressed to not pick up a Seekins Havak NRL in 6 creed.

Did you install the ARCA on the rokstok or buy it that way? It looks like it goes further back towards bottom metal than expected theyd get without getting past where the stock is flat? Now i'm wanting your setup and less pumped about my scalloped versions..

The shorts are a bold move.

It's the non railed rokstok and I installed the arca myself. It has the little bottom metal cutout.

With my pants zipped open, I figured I'd be getting dirty anyway and decided to just ditch them for shorts, definitely glad I did 🤣

I have a fresh one sitting here, if anyone is considering... I think the PH2's are more forgiving on weight.

Need to add total cost at the bottom of the list.
I will play tomorrow so I don’t lose any sleep tonight on how much money I have spent on this addiction. 😂😅🤣.

How hard are you having to stand on the 25 creed to make power factor?

I need a barrel for nrl hunter matches only and figured if I’m going to buy along barrel for match use only I might as well game

Not hard at all. Alpha Brass, CCI small magnum primers, 41.8 grains H4350, 134 ELD-M @ 2885 fps.

Ignorance is bliss! Don’t add it up as you won’t like the answer.

I just tell myself it’s better then a coke habit

I thought you might have mentioned having a unique throat in that one? [side note: I dig that lilja barrel profile!]

Factory tikka barrels give me PF anxiety going smaller than 6.5 but it seems like guys have no problem with 25 creed. My dang 24" CTR doesn't want to hit PF with 140s and h4350 yet my 28" benchmark/lone peak 6.5x47 with same bullets/powder goes 120 FPS faster without any indication of pressure.
