Hey guys,

I’m fairly new to the long range hunting game but have hunted my whole life. I’ve recently decided I want a carbon wrapped barrel on a rifle I plan to use for some long range shooting/hunting(I’m thinking in 28 Nosler). To be clear this is more of a want than a need. While looking at various options I came across the new Nosler M48 Long Range Carbon but I can’t find any first hand reviews other than people just rattling off the specs. Does anyone have first hand knowledge of one of these? I can get it a good bit under MSRP I believe so I’m very interested in that price point. I have another Nosler rifle in 26 Nosler and it’s been great.

Any help is appreciated!

I've only played with a couple (not that specific model). Not super impressed with the accuracy i've personally seen.

I'd look at the fierce or just build a custom. Im also not a fan of the 28, hard on barrels, brass availability is limited.

I run a 300 norma, that being said if i had to do it all over again, I'd do a rum or a win mag.

Thanks WRO, I appreciate the input. I’ve been looking at Fierce and it’s definitely a possibility. Any idea what their turn around time is?

I was mostly interested in the Nosler due to price. I also have access to get the brass so that isn’t as much of an issue.

I also looked at Rbros rifles and really like the quick turn around. Obviously them and Fierce are in a different price bracket for sure. But you get what you pay for so I’m not opposed to that certainly.

I have a 28 nosler made by rbros. It’s a one hole shooter. As to the barrel wear department, im not seeing it. I have 225 down the barrel and the throat is the same as it was when i bought it. Things could change i guess but i never shoot more than 3 at a time and ill let it cool down. Shooting the 180 eldms at 3226. Seeking havak might be worth looking at too.

Your probably better off having a smith build you a rifle. You could put a proof barrel on a rem. 700 action with a timney and a decent stock for the same money as the nosler, and have a better gun. Lots of good companies out there who would build you a 28 nosler.

Thanks man, that’s encouraging as I’m starting to lean towards having them build me one.

Thanks, I’m leaning towards that route I think.

I didn’t read all the comments but you couldn’t give me a rifle with a 3.4” mag box. This is not the 50s. I would check out the Christensen or Fierce rifles.

Talk to Ryan Pierce at Piercision Rifles. The man is a wizard with the 28 Nosler. Proof barrel, carbon manners or McMillan stock and your choice of custom action will give you a light weight rig that will shoot one hole groups with ease. Well worth the cost.

If you are concerned about price, one option. Would be to get yourself a Savage and screw on a carbon barrel. Accu Trigger, Accu Stock, and 999 out of 1000 are superbly accurate...

I believe Nosler 48s are relabeled and marked up considerable Howas.

Seems a lot of guys do very well in long range starting off with Christensen Arms Ridgelines.

Perfect elk rifle imho. Weights right at 9.5lbs scoped, shoots .3 groups.

Derek builds nice sticks.

Thanks Steve and rblosser. The more I look and the more research I do I think I’ll just pony up and have one built. Piercision seems logical since in have my heart set on a 28.

Sometimes it pays to get what you want and not worry so much about price. You will be assured of a very good rifle just like you want.
