Found out about this forum after listening to some podcasts. I’m enjoying it so far. Life long hunter. I enjoy the strugglestick early and a very capable long range rifle late.

Howdy and welcome. I’m in KY and just picked up a recurve this year. I’m hoping to put it to use a bit next year.

I’ve done some bear hunting in Blue Ridge WMA and the Chattahoochee National Forest, and I plan on hunting Cohutta this fall.

How was your experience in the Blue Ridge WMA? I’m considering heading there in November for some whitetails…

I saw a couple of does one morning, my buddy killed a small female bear, and I killed a very large male bear on the last evening of our hunt.

So, I guess it worked out for us, but the overall experience was pretty poor because the military was performing training exercises either right there in the WMA or in the NF around it. This was 8-10 years ago or more now, so I can't remember exactly. They were shooting thousands of rounds of dummy ammo throughout the weekdays. I came across ankle deep piles of brass when scouting around. One guy in our group just gave up and left. Me and another guy stuck it out. By the weekend, the training exercises were over, which ended up working out for us, but it sucks if you are are trying to plan a hunt during the week to avoid crowds/locals. Having said that, I think we only saw a few other hunters, even during the weekend. This was during the tail end of archery and the beginning of a muzzleloader season, which it doesn't look like they have anymore.

PM me and I can send you some more specific info about the deer sign that I saw there.
