NO SNOW!!!

This last Tuesday I decided to bag Casey Peak in the Elkhorns; this is the first time in the winter that I didn't need snowshoes to do so. A little post holing (6-8") the last 1/2 mile, but the route is on the north facing slope too.

A buddy of mine and I are planning a trip into the Bob Marshall early January, as it stands now we'll be carrying snowshoes more than using them (Badger Pass Snotel shows only 5" of snow!).

Late summer the weather guy said we'll have a strong El Niño, so warmer and drier. winter Then come mid October we saw single digit temps and got 16" of snow (in town!) and thought that weather guy has been smoking crack, but turns out he wasn't.

Nothing in Central Montana. Been doing landscape type work outside the last couple weeks while I can. Feels odd to dig fence post holes with ease in December.

That's what I'm afraid of. Picture is of our front yard/driveway about two weeks ago and currently it's snowing and blowing like a banchee. Our local ski resort has 339" as of this morning.

52 F and raining on Christmas Eve.

Ground squirrels are out filling their cheak pouches at the bird feeders.

Lake ice is in bad condition.

Planning my spring tick attach approach now.

The moisture is welcome and driving in winter does suck…..but winter has not arrived yet.

Yeah, I heard there was a ski resort up there somewhere with over 300 inches.
It really is bittersweet. We need the water, snow dependent business's need the snow, etc., but the animals need a break.
Bottom line is mama nature does what she does.
