no cam illegal

Think so?
I would hate to be packing out elk quarters with an 85% let off bow strapped to my pack.

Now that's a different situation isn't it? The proof is there you more than likely used the equipment to take the animal. I'm talking about you being at your truck, camp, or even at your stand/in the woods. The mods make it unlawful, the bow itself is not. The mods come off with an allen wrench...kinda hard to confiscate property when the property hadn't been used to engage in illegal activity.

But, I do agree with what has already been said. You need to read the rules before you go out and hunt. Same same about the broadhead cutting diameter, minimum poundage, etc...

Just said he read it from a reputable source, didn't give the source. Said wardens have issued tickets and can confiscate bows. I said they have my mistake. It's another forum if they don't mine me posting the link I will, or you can google it should pop up.

There are a few states that will not allow 85% let-off. I have sold several Chill-R's last year that I had to get 75% modules for. One of my customers is from South Dakota and also hunts Montana. Both of these states are 80% max along with CO. Unfortunately there will be a lot of guys finding out the hard way on this. The guys that are hunting with the 85% let-off modules will just have to swap there modules with the 75% let-off which will also increase their speed by a few fps.

Just thought I would throw this out there but everyone shooting PRIME bows with PCXL cams (this years cam) could be in jeopardy of this too. Maximum let-off setting for the PCXL is 85%

Seems like something that could be overlooked by most, but at the end of the day, the rules are the rules. It is archery, which by nature is self-limiting. If they don't draw the line somewhere (65%, 75%, 80%, 85%), we might as well just carry loaded crossguns.

Think i would ask to see the device they are going to measure the actual holding weight. Not the advertised weight. Not all vehicles run the same mph as the odometer...fishin lines dont always break at their advertised poundage...Id have to say prove it. Could be a lot off 80% bows that are actually holding 81% ...or 80.5%..What a ridiculous law.

You would get this chance in court, but not in the field.

I wouldnt because my bow cant go over 80. Just wonder how that encounter would play out..." your holding back 14lbs ...good. Your only holding 10.4lbs....YOU UNETHICAL GAME POACHING ELK SWIPING DEER YANKING SUNUVA!!!! !%:$@ JUST BRING YOUR /=!@%ING RIFLE WHY DONT YA!!!!! THATS A VIOLATION !!!!

Ya know around here most of the District Managers hunt and some bow hunt. It is there job to be familiar with the products and there capabilities and enforce the law. It wouldn't take much to remember the 85% let off bows on the market and to recognize the modules that change the bow to 75%. I wouldn't test the officer, I would just comply with the law. It's not like this is the first Matthews or the first year that this has been discussed. I think the law doesn't say harvest with, it says hunt with. Given the totality of the circumstances, I would not take the chance of being judged by my peers by walking around in the woods with an elk tag in my pocket and a bow not meeting CO law in my hands.

I've NEVER run into a warden that was even remotely concerned with the let-off on my bow. In fact, I was hunting a draw unit this year and ran into 3 different wardens multiple times over the season, and I wasn't even checked for a license.....let alone an over let-off bow. Over the course of the season I probably spent 6+ hours talking to these guys.

Page 16 big game hunting brochure discusses methods of take and we can discuss all day how unreasonable the caliber requirements, electronic requirments, and let off requirement are in Colorado, but they are still in effect. http://cpw.state.co.us/Documents/RulesRegs/Brochure/BigGame/biggame.pdf

also the Colorado traditional minimal wt requirement of 35lbs for elk has always been a head scratcher for me
elk must be tougher in Wyoming 50#'s required

Every warden is different, some go by the book and others have common sense. You must have ran into the one's with common sense.
