Have the chance to pick up a LO tag for unit 50 and was wondering if anyone had any thoughts or experiences on the unit that they would like to share. The tag will be for Oct 10-14 first rifle hunt. Trying to do some quick research to see if the hunts worth it. Thanks, Travis

I don't really have much advice, I will be there on my first elk hunt for 2nd archery. If you've done any research (as in google unit 50 nm and dig through forums and facebook posts) you will find it's a difficult unit but rifle is much easier. Hopefully there's water on the ground. I've heard it's been dry lately so I'm expecting a very difficult time finding them. From everything I've seen, find water and you should find the elk. We'll see. Good luck.

Yes I’ve done some research on everything I could thru google and seems to be a tough unit. The guy selling them showed a picture and gave some insight on the potential it has but thought I’d dig a little deeper and hopefully hear from someone who’s had the hunt before. Everything I’ve read from others always points to the same couple mountain ranges but looking at the lower southern stuff looks like it might hold a bull or two and get you away from majority of the hunters, water is key though and can’t seem to find much via google earth.

I hunted that same tag. Unit wide. If the tag was free ide take it. Other than that its a rough unit. Very flat, lots of juniper and sage. Did find elk but no filled tags
