Drew my first NM mule deer tag in Lincoln NF area in NM. The unit has high mountains and desert type low lands. I’m used to hunting in the West TX desert for muley’s. My hunt is first week of Nov. Just looking for pointers on selecting glassing spots in the mountains (elevation, terrain) or should I stick with what I’m used to tracking and glassing the low country. Thanks

Congrats on the tag! Select the highest vantage point possiable. Cone knobs are best but hard to come by (360 degree view). In the mornings glass with the sun at your back. Mid-day to evening, glass into the sun looking into shaded areas.

Well there are a few Giants in 37 that's for sure. Biggest problem is Hunter #'s. Thats why I started bow hunting in the first place. I guess there is a fire burning in the Eastern part of the unit which is where I would of chose to hunt if I were hunting it.

Good luck!

I’ve heard there were deer down in the flats...that’s how I’m used to hunting in west TX. Just don’t have experience hunting in the mountains and was wondering if I might find bigger deer up in the higher elevations. Thanks!
