Hello guys. Hopefully by now you know where you will be this fall. As for me I drew a big goose egg in NM. My family was a little more fortunate. My daughter drew a decent antelope tag and my wife drew a nice muzzleloader elk tag in a unit that I am fairly familiar with.

My son also drew an elk tag in unit 12 late season. This unit looks pretty promising but is very checkerboarded, with most of the BLM/State land in the southwest part of the unit and a decent strip of BLM land in the far northeast. I haven’t scouted this unit much and I am not sure what to expect as far as how difficult it will be navigate through this country. NM roads in this part of the state can be washed out and the water in this unit seems questionable.

I would really like some help from someone who has hunted this unit before. I am not wanting anyone’s honeyhole but a little guidance before I head out later this summer on a scouting trip would be greatly appreciated. My son is 10 and this is his first hunt out of state. Due to the hunt being on the first week of November we will probably stay in Quemado in a motel. That’s not to say that we won’t travel to other parts of the unit. Thanks for reading.

Howdy,
I also drew a late season elk tag for this unit. Archery. December. I’d be happy to share info with you. Although I have not physically scouted yet, I’ve put some decent time in e scouting.
