Deciding between the two for my Tikka 6.5 CM deer rifle out west. I can pick up the NightForce for ~$800 on sale or the Swfa at retail ($750). NightForce has illumination and probably better glass. Swfa is lighter at 22 onces vs 30 ounces. Reticles look similar. Anyone been able to compare both?

I’ve owned both, both very good scopes. Shv shines shooting targets but I did not like the reticle in hunting just to thin. The swfa is on my rifle now.

I prefer the nightforce for range work and to my eye it’s slightly nicer to look through. For hunting though the Swfa is superior, the reticle is much easier to see on lower magnifications and it’s lighter.

I like the Mil-R on my atacr.
Focus more on the weight and illumination needs.

Both scopes will be great for your gun.

Also, if you want to look through some actual glass before buying, and can get to the Boise area, I’m more than happy to meet up.
I’ve got a few Swfa and Nightforce you can check out

I have the NF SHV 4-14x50, but in whatever they call the illuminated MOA reticle version.

Glass is good enough, reticle is what it is. Otherwise the scope appears thus far to be as reliable as they are known for and based on those merits and without saying any more about the reticle, I'd buy it again, with confidence. We bought it last summer, put it on the 6.5cm I bought for the kids, shot it all summer, drove it out west on a 3000+ mile trip, shook it to death on wet USFS backroads for days, hunted with it all season, it hasn't budged.

Do you feel like the Swfa struggle in low light without the illumination? I’m actually in Boise as well.

for Swfa I have the 3-9 and fixed 10x. I’ve owned/used/looked through 2 different 3-15’s at one point or another.
For all the above, I’m fine down past legal hunting light without illumination for mule deer on the dry grassy type hills around Boise. Darker timber may be a little harder for the last 5 min of legal light.
I have and will continue to hunt with these scopes in dark timber areas without a second thought. For me, and my eyes, the lack of active illumination is a non issue.

For comparison sake I should mention: My eyes are youngish, and I’ve got relatively good uncorrected vision. No astigmatism.
