Nightforce scope rings with built in level

I bought a Huskemaw 3-12X42 and have decided to put it on my light 300 win mag. I currently have Talley Rings holding a 1" tube Swaro Z5 so I will have to buy new rings anyway. I'm considering going with an EGW rail and Nightforce aluminum 30mm 4 screw rings. I'd then buy the upper half ring kit with the level built into the ring. The rifle alone is a LW 70 built by Rifles Inc and does have their muzzle brake on it. It weighs about 6.25lbs rifle only. I'm shooting 180gr Accubonds out of it right now with a stout load of H1000 to give an idea of recoil.

Is this a good option?

I really don't like the levels that stick out to the side of the scope mount to snag on stuff. I do sometimes carry that rifle in an Eberlestock scabbard and may carry it on horseback someday. A buddy had an aluminum Talley ring snap in half last year on his Remington 700 that worried me. Talking to him further I found out he had not lapped the scope rings before mounting it and when he did on the replacement pair it took some doing. His rifle's scope mount holes must not be perfectly straight.

This rifle will be going to Alaska with me on my first moose hunt this fall, and hopefully on a caribou and Sitka blacktail hunt in the next decade. It will also be my elk rifle here in the lower 48. I don't plan to shoot past 600yds on game with the light rifle but I shot it pretty well to that distance with the Z5 last year. I want a set-up as sturdy as I can get since this rifle will be going on the AK hunts where it will likely take a beating. Also due to weight limits on bush planes a spare rifle won't be an option, not like elk hunting when a spare rifle is never further than the truck if something goes wrong.

Thanks once again for the advice.

you could look at getting an extreme hardcore rail with the built in level:

7075 aluminum Picatinny base with built in level

i have the defensive edge top ring level and it works well, but if you are concerned about having anything extra protruding you want to look at the above choice.

not to talk to you out of it or to say that you dont need the ACD, but if you are limiting yourself to 600 yards, you will likely not see any bullet shift if you are canted at that distance (unless of course its a severe cant..) but i would assume you would be perfectly fine "eye balling" everything out to 600yds

I'm curious if you've used a level that sticks out to the side? It seems that a lot of people have this fear that they're going to hang up on everything but it just doesn't happen. I've used a hollands level on all my lr hunting rifles and it's never been a problem. I prefer them to a top mounted level as I find them to see when I get on target. I also like it mounted to my scope as I never level my scope to my action. If you shoulder your rifle how you normally do and then level your scope to the fall of gravity you are more likely to not need a level at all. It's amazing the difference it can make when you set your scope up this way.

I'd also check out TPS if you want a little cheaper ring option. They're a great set of rings and it'll save you a little cash.

Thanks everyone I'll check them out. I have not used a level that sticks out the side before. I have not used a level before except the one built into the 5-30x Huskemaw on my heavy 264WM.

I'm shooting further than I have in the past. Even though I don't plan to shoot past 600 on game with this rifle I would like to practice further and improve my shooting.

The guy at the bow shop where I got my first bow taught me to practice shooting my bow at 80yds, not because I'd shoot game at that distance but to show flaws in my shooting that don't show up closer. I've carried that thinking over to my rifles. Making hits at longer distances makes me more confident for the the 300-350yd shots I'd prefer to take.

The level might not be necessary but it's one variable I can control so I figure I might as well take advantage of it.

In my opinion a level is absolutely necessary if you want to shoot distance. It is the best $50-60 a guy can spend if he wants to get into the long range game
