I run a Nightforce NXS 2.5-10x42 with the Mil-R reticle on my hunting rifle...damn near perfect for the terrain I hunt. The only downside is the exposed, non-locking, non capped windage turret.

Plenty of guys say they’ve never had an issue with windage turrets getting bumped, but on my last elk trip, it happened a couple of times. The terrain I hunt goes from thick brush to wide-open cuts fast, and that’s when it got knocked out of zero. I always check my turrets prior to a shot and when storing my rifle for the evening, but it’s a little nerve racking.

I’ve messed with how the rifle rides on my pack, trying to shield the turret without sacrificing quick access, but haven’t found the right setup yet.

Anyone figure out a solid way to “lock” the windage knob? Thinking about throwing some duct tape over it or maybe using a scope coat.

Open to ideas...appreciate any input.

I would go with vet tape, if taping it would actually help.

I had it happen once, as I keep my rifle strapped on my pack most of the time in my hunts. I use one of these for my rifle on my pack, and created it in part to keep the turret from turning. We have a simple cover for the scope too.

Does any have a pic of the windage cap removed? I dont own one but if the cap was off maybe i could come up with something

I used to own a NF compact with capped turrets and regret selling the thing. They no longer make them.

Yes, the uncapped windage is a liability. I wish NF would just cap them. I doubt anyone using the 2.5-10 scope is dialing wind that it needs to be exposed.

Most of my rifles use SHV 3-10 scopes and a big reason is that they have capped turrets.

I've never had issues with the windage getting moved, but could totally see it happening. For me, it's the parallax that is always getting moved around when I don't want it to. Gonna look into the LS Wild stuff.

I wish I could find a picture of what I used to use on my vortex razor hd with exposed windage knob. I used a plastic or rubber cap just a little oversized of the windage knob, drilled two small holes in opposite sides of the cap, and used a small bungee or my daughter’s hair tie. Would put the cap over the windage and pull the bungee under the scope and over with the parallax knob. It stays in place and doesn’t allow the windage to rotate and is easily pulled off when the need to dial arises.

Bump. That non-locking windage turret is the only thing that's keeping me from buying this scope. I want small form and light-ish weight but I just know in the heat of the moment I could easily forget to check windage after pulling it off my pack in a hurry.

It’s a nonissue. I have three of these that have been hunted extensively and I’ve never had an issue. I use neoprene scope covers, that may have something to do with it.

Just put a piece of black tape around it if that makes you feel better.
