Nightforce NX8 Question

I’m new to the forum, joined today and figured someone could help me out. Recently I bought a Nightforce NX8, liking it so far. After getting it dialed in I went to put the turret back on and the O-rings wouldn’t lay flat. Any tips on making them fit properly? Photo attached showing the O-ring sticking out. It happened to both O-rings on the elevation turret.

I used the NF tool that came with the scope so I was only using two fingers, tried not to go too tight. The O-ring would immediately start popping out. It was sticking out way before I ever finished tightening. Eventually I got them to lay in there but it was total luck after taking the bolt in and out many times.
