Nightforce Atacr mil-R reticle question

How usable is the mil-R reticle on 4x with the 4-16x42?
I’ve had the mil-c and it definitely wasn’t usable until about 8x or so.

You can use it with illumination but the sub tensions are too small for my eyes.

Subtensions not visible at 4X but usable as a duplex in all but the dimmest dark timber situations which is easily remedied with one button push for the illumination. At 6x I find I normally dont need the illumination
