NF SHV F1 - on a lightish 300 PRC?

I think I want a SHV F1 on my 300 PRC but I’m concerned with the eye relief - I’ve read some reviews saying it’s picky. My 300 PRC is not an ultralight but it’s not heavy either. It’s a Howa 1500 that comes in around 7.75 lbs unscoped.

Anyone have experience with a SHV F1 on a kicker? I do have a custom brake on order for it to help, it beat my ass unbraked with a super light VX-Freedom on it, figure a heavier scope plus the brake will alleviate that.

Been about to start this exact thread for a minute. I really want that SHV F1 on my Tikka 7mmRM (soon to be a 6.5 SAUM) but I've been over thinking the eye relief.

Big fan of the NXS line not so much the nx8. I would look for a NXS. Don’t skip on optics

My hunting partner has used one on a Christensen Traverse 300 WM for a few years. It's done well for him.

My current spread includes 2 nx8 and an shv f1. Some days I have a hard time picking what one I like more.

I don’t like the eye boxes on them, I’ve tried a couple. Prefer to stick to lower zoom ratio erector designs for that reason. Fine on a bench, but in the field they get aggravating in less than perfect shooting positions.

At 4-14 on my 4-32nx8s, there is almost no discernible difference between the two (shv) when shot next to each other. Now at 20x plus I do notice a difference.

I could take either and be happy. I’d pass on the smaller nx8 though.

Great scope - got one last week. Only shot maybe 40 rounds with it, but eye box was a non-issue. Tracking has been dead on so far.

I have an SHV F1 on an unbraked Christensen Arms Ridgeline in 300 WSM. I wouldn't recommend it for an unbraked magnum, but since you're going braked it should be fine.

For those of you with experience running the SHV F1 Mil on hunting rigs, how is the reticle visibility at 4 and 5 x in the timber? is the illuminated center cross bright enough to give you something useful to aim with in those situations where you literally walk right into a killing opportunity and have to act quickly?

Got the scope in and mounted yesterday, really pleased with it. I tended to think of the SHV, even with its price tag, as a “cheap” NF…it is not! Feels very well built, nicer turrets than I expected, and the while the zero set is not as positive as a zero stop I got mine to do exactly 0.1 MIL below 0 on my bore sight. I also got the NF throw lever, essential IMO.

Worth noting, I like flip caps on all my rifles. I had a pair of these sitting around and they fit perfect. A bit better aesthetically than Butler Creeks, and you can’t beat the price!

Nice congrats! I have been extremely impressed with the tracking of mine... so much so it has me re-thinking my hunting guns and thinking about a SHV 3-10. It makes zeroing super easy... like 2-3 shots and you are good. I have had it out to 19.75 MOA and back to 0 three separate times and was perfect each time. Zero set seems to be normal, mine goes .25 MOA below zero on mine too, but it's not the end of the world and is just a visual guide most of the time for me.

Good word on the caps... I have the nightforce caps, and they seem fine FWIW but a little more spendy.

You will like it even more once you start shooting it!
