NF ring torque question

Recently picked up a set of NF 6 screw rings. I see that the torque spec on the cross bolt is 100 inch pounds (68 on the 4 screw version). Does everyone go all the way to 100 on these? Curious if that can damage the pic rail? Everyone still using loctite? Thx.

I have the NF 6 screw rings on a few rifles and follow the NF directions of 100 inch pounds. No issues at all. Great rings.

I use 65 inch pounds with no loctite on the 6 screw rings with no issue. 100 seems excessive.

I've always followed NF's recommendations on ring torque. Never had a problem with 100 inch/lbs on the cross bolts. Less might work but I haven't seen a downside to torquing to spec.

Torque specs from quality suppliers are developed based on sound engineering principles, not what "seems good." IMO, best practice is to go with the recommended values and methods. A lower value may work forever, especially in a lower recoiling situation, or may fail at the most inconvient time. The recommended value should work in any situation.

Id call and ask there reasoning if it helps your train of thought with it. I would use there numbers im sure there was testing that account for published instructions . Good luck

Any standard for having the nut on the left or right side? I wouldn’t think it would make any difference, though the left side would keep the ejection side clear.

I go with the left side just for that reason.

I use 55# with the 4 screw and a little bit of imperial sizing wax on the mating parts.
