Hey all this is mt first post here, so hopefully all goes well. Ive searched and done a lot of reasing here along with on another forum. Im sure members here are in the other as well. But like to see what everyone "believes". Yes its all personal preference but... yeah.

I dont own any real higher end scopes. The gun im looking to put one on is not a hunting rifle, or at least wasnt designed as one even though others have used em for such. I recently bought a scar 20s in 6.5 creedmoor and bought the 308 barrel for it also. The scar is known to eat optics so im trying not to use a warranty even though thats what it is for.

I really wanted to do the cool matchy matchy fde thing but thats not high on the priority list as finding a good deal, as the rifle set me back a good bit with the unplanned extra barrel. I was looking at 2nd hand or demo Leupold mark 5hd scopes and then a bunch of people say buy an atacr or B&S. again trying to get used or open box etc to save coin. Atacr was thinking either 4-20 skipping the 5-25 as i hear its the worst of the line up and if i went larger to the 7-35

You're not going to get many that recommend Leupold on here. Check out the drop tests.
Is the Atacr a favorite here also? I'm not opposed to it. I actually saw a listing a while back here for a used one at a good price. But new member so I have another 5 days and mutipoe posts to go before I can chat with anyone lol I also am not certain if the 4-20 is the best size or if I should be looking at larger. I do live in ohio, and at my own property I can really only shoot 100-200 yards. To do real long distance 600-1000 I will have to travel to a range that's a little over an hour away.

Your gun won't hurt an ATACR, and if you have the money get it. But for the range you are shooting go on SWFA and get a 10x mil quad for $350. Your gun won't hurt the SWFA either and it is thousands less.

i dont want something less power just for the distance i can shoot on my own property. Come spring i could stretch out and make a lane to hit about 400 yards here. But still would ultimately defeat the purpose of the gun. esp the 6.5.

Big ATACR fan here but I've heard of SCARs wrecking all kinds of scopes, no personal experience with one.
I have heard the 17 is much worse than the 20, but the mount is a big part of it also. so hopefully with a Spuhr mount we wont have any issues.

would everyone agree that a 7-35 is way too much? found a deal for darn near the same price for a 4-20 or 7-35. i know the next question will be whats the 20s used for. Not really sure honestly. I dont compete in long distance shooting. In ohio we cant use a bottle neck cartriage to hunt (except for coyote and wild bore) so to have fun and shoot some targets and i suppose to scratch that itch if things ever went really south in this country? It was just a bucket list gun buy, and always have thought they look great.

My 8 year old killed a deer at 300 yards on 4x. I've shot out to 400 on 4x, sometimes on 6x. You do not need more than 10x for 400 yards.

4-20 would be plenty for sure. The trijicon tenmiles are also solid scopes and a good bit cheaper than an ATACR.

I don't disagree with that. I'm saying I don't want a scope that's limited to my own property that I own, so I can still travel to a range and punch out past 1k yards. It may only be once a year. But still want the ability

I had a 5-25, sold it and bought the 4-20. I wish I would have gone with the 4-16 and saved the extra 5 oz. I'd like to see NF introduce a 3-12x42 F1 atacr. It would be perfect.

I have an ATACR 4-16 and 1-8 on SCARs and they have run well. Also ran the NXS 2.5-10 which did well.

I have been told the 5-25 is the worst in the line up and doesn't match clarity as any of the others.

really? why is that? again just going from what others have said but it seems everyone loves the 4-20 i was told "it was built for the scar 20s (mk20)" not sure how true that is, but know it was for a socom contract and thats who used the mk20 so makes sense

The Atacr is a nice scope, but really heavy. Glass is nice, turrets are definite and it is repeatable. Life's too short to shoot poverty SWFA scopes. The NXS and NX8 scopes are reliable as well, the glass is not as nice, but still clear.

ive never heard of swfa and saw they were only like 400 bucks, so i doubt i want to go that route on a 4-5k rifle lol i really considered the nx8 (because i can get it in fde) and was told not to do it go atacr or bust. i guess that was another opinion. ultimately i hope to find a used 4-20 atacr for 2k. It seems like everyone wants 2.3ish though. And i found a fde 7-35 for 2500. so thats my dilemma
