Newfoundland outfitters

I’m looking to book a drive in hunt in Newfoundland for moose. I recently went to the great American outdoor show to gather some information on outfitters. All the outfitters seem like great people but I understand they are salesman trying to sell me their services. Many of them gave me client reference lists but I’m guessing they are people who have been successful on their hunts or close friends. I’m looking for a great all around experience whether we harvest moose or not because it’s a hunting trip not a killing trip.

So im looking for any hunters who may have went with these following outfitters to share their experiences successful or unsuccessful or if there are any outfitters you recommend or would stay away from. Thanks!

Thread 'Newfoundland Moose hunters 2023 success'

Hello everyone, heading to Newfoundland moose hunting this fall [2024] just wondering how the success was for the guys that went last year [2023]. I have been reading a lot of material saying numbers of animals are way down and success rates are plummeting. This is a fly in not a road hunt maybe that will make the difference? Just looking for some feedback. Thanks in advance..

I was basically doing the same as you. My buddy and I went to the SCI Convention yesterday. We were leaning towards Effords but after talking to Arluk we really liked them. We ended up booking for late Sept of 2027. Good luck in your search

Yup, sold us a drive in hunt in Gander, sold the camp and never told us. We wanted to hunt right out the back door. A reference told us he sold the camp, when we called him on it he said this camp was better. It was his fishing camp 2 1/2-3 hour drive one way to hunt. We road hunted, 70 year old guides refused to get out of the truck!

We would go down a road with three trucks of local hunters coming out (road hunting) and have two or three trucks with local hunters behind us. I don’t know what would have happened if there was a moose but I never saw one! Also, when you come across tree planter signs you have to case your gun! Area was full of tree planters! Guides didn’t know the area. And the food sucked! Effords is a crook!

Instead of offering the five guys their $18,500 back he just shoved us into his fishing camp! Oh well, he got paid!
