I'm seeing a lot of people hunting with outfitters and nobody doing diy in Newfoundland. Is it illegal to hunt without a guide there or just simply easier to go with a guide for obvious reasons?

The only province you can DIY for moose in Ontario, and I don't know about that anymore. Quebec has rules eliminating non-residents through there means.

You can get a Canadian to buddy host you in Alberta, if you can find an Alberta resident that will actually do it.

The only DIY for non resident was years ago some outfitters offered European plan caribou hunt where they had a camp manager to make sure everyone was ok, and they had to radio kill reports every day, but otherwise you were on your own. I did one in 2006 in North Eastern Quebec which is no longer allowed.
