New years resolution 2026

Years ago I made a resolution to not make any more new years resolutions. So far I have kept it.

Setting a date to make a change is just an excuse to not address a problem in the present. It lets our brain get the reward of believing it is doing something for no cost and is more likely to prevent actual change than to help it.

I'm with Marbles......my resolution is not to make any.......other than 2026 is the year of retirement.

Year of the Fire Horse

what is 2026 chinese zodiac

Chinese Horoscope 2026 forecast: Chinese Horoscope 2026: 3 ...
The year 2026 is the Year of the Fire Horse (or Red Horse), a significant event occurring only once every 60 years, combining the energetic Horse sign with the intense Fire element, promising dynamic change, innovation, and bold pursuits starting from the Chinese New Year on February 17, 2026, and lasting until early 2027.
Key Characteristics of the Fire Horse Year:
Dynamic & Energetic: The Fire element amplifies the Horse's natural vitality, creating a year of high energy, enthusiasm, and drive for adventure.
Transformation: It's a period for breaking old patterns, fostering new creative forces, and launching transformative cultural shifts and technological advancements.
Leadership & Boldness: Expect increased opportunities for leadership, courage, and pursuing ambitions with charisma, but also a need to manage this powerful energy.
Rare Occurrence: The combination of the Horse sign and Fire element (Yang Fire) happens only once in 60 years, making 2026 a powerful year for change.

Interesting, I never thought of it that way

I’m in the same boat. I figure if I want to change something then do it now. It’s pretty funny to watch the gym attendants for the next 3 weeks Peter out.

Had a good to great year hunting/fitness wise so plan to take it up a level. Getting harder tho as the years climb.

The major thing I need to get under control was I need to reduce nicotine intake. Smashed way to many tins of synthetic pouches the last half of the year.

As with most things, it is a bit more complex than my summary above, or even what follows.

There is evidence that telling people we are going to do something (say loose weight) makes us less likely to actually do it. I have found this to be true for me.

It also depends on why the date and the person. What changes on that date? Is it an arbitrary way to avoid trying in the present or will there be significant life changes that make the goal more realistic or more imperative at that point in time? Big life changes; such as changing jobs, moving out of state, or having a kid; can be natural infection points. They are also stressors though and might make change harder.

Human brains rarely change quickly though and expecting them too usually leads to failure. It is like thinking you can set a date to run a marathon, that only works if you start addressing your fitness well before race day and you were realistic in the amount of time needed.

I always try to just be better but get distracted or lazy so new years is lighting a new fire under that.

Priorities for hunting is to get into rifle hunting again, be more consistent with shooting my bow.

Personal priorities is health. Spent the last week with a bad back from no obvious cause. Once recovered I’m going to make mobility a fitness focus along with making sure I do exercises correctly. For work I have a bold idea that I need to investigate. If that doesn’t work I’m going in a new direction.
