Good point. It’s also the case that party affiliation matters far less at the local level, in some cases to the point of being entirely irrelevant since official/unofficial party positions don’t necessarily trickle down to the local level. There are many examples of democrat heavy towns who are perfectly ok with a Republican Mayor and vice versa. Does it matter what party affiliation the county coroner is? When I vote in local elections, I look through the summaries of their positions and make the best choice possible based on that. Sometimes, you have a big local issue you can use as a sway point, but not always. Local issues are generally much more important than party affiliation in local elections and, in many places throughout the west, public lands are just as much of a “local issue” as anything else since economies are built around them.
