Coyote/Hog Gun Setup

I’ve got a cheap ($400) Del-ton DTI-15 .223

I’m buying a thermal ASAP

Do I need to buy a different gun or will this one be ok?

Just from quick research looks like a longer barrel and new trigger would be a big plus

No need to change guns for a start. How does the delton shoot? Keep your shots to whatever range you and your rifle are good at. Have fun.

Haven't heard of that particular brand before, but I agree, no need to get into a new rifle right away. Just get out and get experience and have fun.

Rifle really doesn’t matter a whole lot until you get comfortable identifying predators in said thermal. Takes a decent amount of “screen time” behind one to get comfy identifying coyotes vs farm dogs past 150-200 yards. Until you get to that point and the point that you’ve figured out how to consistently call em in, just rock what ya got 🤟🏼

I own a delton I killed a lot of hogs and predators with it as a stock rifle. For a cheaper AR they are well built and they supply parts for a lot of the other higher end rifle companies. I have recently swapped the stock 16" barrel for an 18" proof and dropped in a trigger tech trigger. Both are worthwhile upgrades. It was just at MOA before and now is probably 3/4 MOA. Mine has never been to picky on ammo as long as I kept it above 55 grn and under 75. I like to handload the 55 grn Vmax in it and several bolt guns so that's usually what I use. I have done some recent load work with the 64 grn TGK not the most fur friendly but it shoots nice especially out past the 350 yard line.
